Laptop hunting

Hubby and I have been scouting around for a laptop and I was surprised that you could easily get one nowadays for less than P30,000 which is so much cheaper than the price of my desktop approximately 2 years ago. What's so cool about it is that the specs are so much better now like for that price, you already have a 1 gig RAM, 120 to 160 gig HD, DVD writer, WIFI enabled and of course with your usual video card, sound card etc. etc. with freebies to boot. Hopefully we can find something that we both agree on soon so we don't have to wrestle over taking turns with this old pc I'm using right now. We need one yesterday!!! lol

Extreme homes.

I like watching HGTV because there's a wealth of inspiration in all of their shows for design, innovation and creativity. I was watching a show the other day on extreme homes and I was quite impressed with this particular home that was featured. The owner of the house - a tech wiz - is the guy who patented the voice mail feature ( i think?) that we take for granted because we are so used to it already, on your regular phone. He built this "smart" house controlled by a computer system (like those big cabinets) with a personal IT guy hired just to oversee and maintain it. He has a sooo cool office space in his own home that no one could get in until it recognizes the authorized handprint. His, of course. Also, his own personal computer had like a wall of monitors and he had a fitness bicycle built in to his seat so while he's doing his work he's exercising at the same time. Neat, huh? He built a slide just like the one you see in swimming parks next to the regular staircase to slide down on just for fun. He even has this awesome home theatre, complete with plush home theater seating and of course remote controlled from anywhere in the house so that when 11:00 pm hits, he can automatically retract the dropdown screen from his remote and anyone watching beyond that, especially the kids had to stop. He says he can even monitor his house even if he was in another country. Isn't that extreme awesome? I'm sure his kids are having a blast in that home. I know I would.

later y'all!

Finally - Unlocked Cellphones

Isn't if frustrating when your relative from abroad decides to send you the latest cellphone as a gift and you end up not using it because it's locked into the service provider's restrictions. We have a few of those and they end up collecting dust because they couldn't be used.  I just found out today that you can actually buy (or ask your favorite tita or tito to buy :P) an unlocked phone. I'm not a cellphone junkie (I prefer other tech toys :D) but this one caught my eye. it costs a hefty $888.00 which I could use to get a new fully loaded laptop already (yikes!). But if you're into it, you might want to try this little toy out or better yet, tell tita or tito all about it. :P

IT Job Seeker?

Speaking of computers and the IT industry, the demand for more efficient and fully loaded computers capable of handling gigavolumes of data faster than a speeding bullet is really pushing the market. Those who have this need for speed and monstrous HD space (that includes me) doesn't really slow down, don't you think?
The internet has opened up this whole new world of endless supply music and video downloads and many other online opportunites, which to me translates to a lot of  jobs waiting especially for those in the field of IT. If you are a job seeker try to do an IT job search in any search engine and you will find tons of links. Better yet, if you want to do a more refined industry search try techcareers.com. They might have the right job match to what you are looking for. Happy Hunting!

Online Earning How to's

I've had a few friends ask me how to go about starting an online business or how to start earning online. One of the things I tell them especially if they are really serious about it is to research, research and research some more. If you're reading this you probably know a lot more than most people do and maybe you would like to take it a step further and get your very own dot com. There are tons of info available online to help anyone start  but sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming scouring thru the net so I've found  a few sites to help you along the way.

First of all you will need virtual real estate on the web, a place or "address" where people can find you every time and where you will store all those wonderful business ideas you've got stored in your brain. So, you'll need that, and there are a lot of web companies who will let you "lease, rent or occupy" their space for $X dollars  a year or so depending on their package. You can try going to Web Hosting Reviews to find the web company that will best suit your needs. They've got a lot of reviews all in one page so you can compare a bunch of sites all at once. (saves time googling all over). They have a lot of reviews like a Hostgator Review , a Startlogic Review etc. etc. Not only that, they have articles, web tips and so much more for beginners or even those already familiar with the how-to's of online earning.

While you're doing your research on that, you can also start bringing  your "house" together and  start working on the other aspects of your online  business like the look and feel of your site, the products or services that you are offering,  your meme, your payment options, customer support etc. etc. I guess that's a lot to put on your plate for now, so go out and try it first. Don't forget to check back here once in a while. You might find a tip or two to help you out again.

Life in High Definition

All of a sudden life has turned up the volume and everything is now in High Definition - HDTV, HDMI cables, HDAudio, HDMovies and HDDVDs - a feast for the senses in vivid living color - photography included. I once saw a photo that was post processed  HDR (if you're a photo bug you should try this one out) and what a difference it really makes. You just can't help but stop and take a second look. Now I've seen a lot of  these high-def gizmos in the malls, and my eyes had to get used to all the color information blasted right before me. For folks like me still living with an analog TV (it's an old TV with the big bulky frame) HD is something I'd put on my wishlist. Definitely.  :)

Not Enough Space

...  in my computer, that is. I've been having issues with my computer for the last month especially now that I only have around 30% available space on my HD to work with. This afternoon I tried to do a little work on my photos and had PS and LR open at the same time and it just didn't have enough RAM to complete the tasks. It's so frustrating, especially with the kind of stuff I do on it. I edit a lot of photos, do layouts for a few friends and of course do my digi scrap stuff as well and these are all ram hogs! To think I only have 512mb to play around with...ugh. We're going to the mall tomorrow and I'm going to check out how much it costs to upgrade... until then its just one app at a time for me. (sigh..)
